Quick Start

Shot Data Tracker is accessed in a browser at www.shotdatatracker.com. Start by signing in, preparing your dropdown lists, logging a session, then checking the saved record in History.

1. Open the site Go to www.shotdatatracker.com and sign in with your account.
2. Manage lists Add locations, calibers, rifles, bullets, powders, primers, and factory ammunition before your first full logging session.
3. Save a session Enter date, location, caliber, rifle, shot count, distance, notes, photos, load data, and confidence details.
4. Review results Use History, Analytics, CSV tools, competitions, and exports to inspect and back up your shooting data.

Fastest First Session

  1. Open Equipment and add at least one location, caliber, and rifle.
  2. Go back to Session log.
  3. Use Today or choose the session date.
  4. Select location, caliber, rifle, and enter the number of shots.
  5. Add optional distance, notes, target photo, factory ammo, load details, environment, confidence, or zero-check data.
  6. Select Save, then confirm the session appears in Session history.

What It Does

The Shot Data Tracker web app helps you record shooting sessions, keep equipment and ammunition details consistent, review previous sessions, attach media, analyze chronograph CSV files, and take part in competitions.

Session logging Capture range session details including date, location, rifle, caliber, shots, distance, notes, load data, weather, confidence, and photos.
History review Filter saved sessions, open detail pages, edit records, delete mistakes, export data, and link CSV files.
CSV analytics Upload chronograph CSV files, preview rows, summarize columns, and combine linked factory-ammo or matching home-load sessions for performance reviews.
Competitions Join invite-code competitions, create events as an organiser, submit group scores, review leaderboards, and export results.
Offline queue The browser can queue a session if connection is temporarily unavailable, then retry when the site can be reached again.
Account tools Manage your email, password, sessions, notifications, organiser access, and personal data exports.

Access And Sign In

The web application is accessed at www.shotdatatracker.com. This guide is only for the browser experience on that site; separate guides for other application types may be added later.

Sign In

  1. Open www.shotdatatracker.com.
  2. Enter your username and password.
  3. Select Login.
  4. After sign-in, the app opens the main tracker page.

Create An Account

If registration is enabled, select Create account from the sign-in page, enter the requested account details, and submit the form. If registration is not available, request access through your competition organiser or site support.

Session length: browser sessions normally stay signed in for several days. If you are redirected to the login page, sign in again.

Equipment

Equipment keeps your entry forms fast and consistent. Values added here appear in the web app dropdowns for logging, filtering, editing, analytics, and competitions.

Recommended Setup Order

  1. Add Locations for the ranges or places you shoot.
  2. Add Calibers.
  3. Add Rifles under the correct caliber.
  4. Add Bullets under the correct caliber, then add Powders and Primers if you record home-load data.
  5. Add Factory Ammo values if you track factory loads or use bullet-performance analytics.

Import And Export Lists

Select Export options JSON to download your list setup. Use Import options JSON to restore a previous setup or replace your current lists.

Rifles and bullets belong to calibers: select or create the caliber first, then add each rifle and bullet under the correct caliber. Entry, editing, and Home Loads analytics only show bullets associated with the selected caliber.

Logging Sessions

The Session log starts with Log a session. Record the required shooting data first, then add optional context that will help you understand the session later.

Required Fields

  • Date.
  • Location.
  • Caliber.
  • Rifle.
  • Number of shots.

Optional Fields

Section Fields Use When
Session Session name and notes. You want to label a match, drill, load test, zero check, or training session.
Distance Distance in metres. You want to compare sessions at different distances.
Factory Ammo Factory ammunition selection. You want consistent ammunition tracking or bullet-performance analytics.
Load Details Bullet, powder, load/charge, and primer. You are recording handload or ammunition setup details.
Environment Temperature in °C and wind in mph. Weather may explain group size, velocity, or point-of-impact changes.
Confidence Confidence score and zero-check result. You want to mark whether the session was clean data or affected by uncertainty.
Target photo Image upload. You want a visual record of a target, setup, or result.
Powder versus load: select the reusable powder name, such as Varget, from your managed Powder list. Use Load / charge for the session-specific amount or recipe detail, such as 42.0gr.
Caliber-specific bullets: choose a caliber before selecting a bullet. Changing the caliber clears the current rifle and bullet so you can choose compatible values from that caliber's lists.

Entry Actions

  • Today fills the date with the current day.
  • Save submits the entry.
  • Clear empties the form.
  • Duplicate last prefills the form from the most recent entry so repeated setups are faster.

Offline Queue

If the browser cannot reach www.shotdatatracker.com while saving a session, the web app can queue the entry locally and retry later.

Queue badge The Session log shows an offline queue badge when entries are waiting to sync.
Automatic retry The browser retries when the connection returns, the page regains focus, or the app is reloaded.
Browser storage Queued entries stay in this browser until they are submitted successfully.
Photo caution Large photos may fail if they exceed upload limits or if browser data is cleared before sync.
Do not clear site data while entries are pending: queued sessions and their attached files may be lost before they sync.

History And Details

The Session history section on the Session log lists saved sessions. Use filters to narrow the list, then open a session detail page when you need to inspect or edit the full record.

Filters

Filter by date range, location, caliber, rifle, factory ammo, minimum and maximum shots, and minimum and maximum distance. Select Apply to filter and Clear to reset.

Presets

Filter presets let you save common history views. Configure filters, enter a preset name, select Save preset, then reuse it later from the preset selector.

Session Detail

Open a session to view the full saved record, including shot ID, date, location, caliber, rifle, shot count, distance, environment, bullet, powder, load/charge, primer, factory ammo, confidence, zero check, notes, photo, and linked CSV.

Detail Actions

  • Edit changes stored shot fields.
  • Save applies edits.
  • Download PDF creates a session report.
  • Upload + Link uploads a CSV and links it to the session.
  • Open CSV opens the linked file in the CSV viewer.

Analytics And CSV

The web Analytics and CSV tools help you move from individual session records to trends, comparisons, and chronograph summaries.

Session Analytics

The Sessions tab can show total sessions, total shots, average shots per session, performance over time, zero drift or rifle comparison, session details, and selected-session comparisons.

Display Controls

  • Toggle shot count and average displays.
  • Use moving averages and set the moving-average window.
  • Choose line or bar chart views.
  • Filter by date range, location, caliber, rifle, and factory ammo.
  • Save analytics presets for repeated report views.
  • Export a PDF report from the current analytics view.

Bullet Data

The Bullet Data tab combines linked CSV files for matching ammunition. Use the Factory Ammo / Home Loads rocker to change modes. Factory Ammo shows the factory-ammunition selector and comparison controls. Home Loads replaces those controls with caliber plus optional bullet, powder, load/charge, and primer filters. Choose a preset or custom date range, then review velocity averages, standard deviation, extreme spread, minimum, maximum, session breakdowns, detected metrics, charts, and review notes.

Home-load matching: caliber is required. The Bullet selector then shows only bullets managed under that caliber. Bullet, powder, load/charge, and primer are optional; selecting more fields narrows the linked sessions included in the review.

CSV Viewer

  1. Open a linked CSV from a session detail page, or open the CSV viewer directly when a file is available.
  2. Confirm the file metadata and preview rows.
  3. Review column summaries, numeric ranges, missing data, examples, and histograms.
  4. Use the file quality warnings before relying on the data in analytics or competition results.
CSV format matters: Garmin Xero style exports are the primary target for velocity summaries. Other chronograph formats may preview but may not produce every metric.

Competitions

Competitions let users join a shared event, submit group scores, compare rankings, view target photos, and discuss results. Creating a competition requires organiser access.

Join A Competition

  1. Open Competitions.
  2. Enter the invite code provided by the organiser.
  3. Select Join.
  4. Open the competition from My Competitions.

Create A Competition

  1. Open the create form as an organiser.
  2. Enter title and optional description.
  3. Choose scoring mode: manual total per group or per-shot ring count.
  4. Set groups per entry and shots per group.
  5. Optionally set distance, caliber, unit, start date, end date, and hidden leaderboard.
  6. Optionally load or save a competition template.
  7. Create the competition and share the invite code.

Enter Scores

Use the group tabs to move between groups. In manual total mode, enter total score and maximum possible score. In per-shot mode, enter each shot score and let the page calculate the total. Common fields include group size, target photo, notes, and optional per-group CSV upload.

Competition Detail

The detail page shows competition status, scoring format, leaderboard, participants, your entries, discussion, organiser controls, and export actions where your role allows them.

Account And Security

Open Account to review profile details, change credentials, manage sessions, and export your personal shot data.

Control Purpose
Email and verification View email status, change email with current password, and resend verification email when needed.
Password Change password by entering current password, new password, and confirmation.
Other sessions Sign out other logged-in browsers or devices if they should no longer have access.
Data exports Download personal shot data as CSV for spreadsheets or JSON for backup and migration.
Notifications Use the notification bell for organiser requests, competition events, score submissions, and account notices.

Exports And Limits

The web app includes export tools for personal backup, spreadsheet review, and competition reporting.

Shot export JSON Best for backup or importing shot data back into the app.
Options JSON Backs up or restores locations, calibers, caliber-specific rifle and bullet lists, powders, primers, and factory ammunition.
PDF reports Available from session detail and analytics pages where supported by the current view.
Target photos Use JPEG or PNG style image files. Very large files may be rejected.
CSV uploads Use .csv files. Very large files may be sampled, limited, or rejected for performance.

Troubleshooting

Problem Likely Cause Fix
Cannot sign in Wrong credentials, expired session, or temporary site/network issue. Confirm you are using www.shotdatatracker.com, re-enter credentials, and request account support if needed.
Cannot create an account Registration may be closed. Request access through your competition organiser or site support.
Dropdowns are empty Personal lists have not been set up, or no caliber is selected for rifles. Open Equipment, add locations and calibers, then add rifles under the selected caliber.
Shot will not save Required fields are missing, shot count is invalid, connection failed, or the photo is too large. Complete required fields, use a positive shot count, remove oversized media, and check the offline queue badge.
Pending shots will not sync The browser still cannot reach the site, or browser storage was cleared. Reconnect, reload the Session log, leave the browser open briefly, and avoid clearing site data while pending items exist.
CSV will not upload or preview The file is not a CSV, is too large, or uses an unsupported structure. Use a .csv file. For velocity summaries, prefer Garmin Xero style CSV exports.
Bullet Data review is empty No sessions match the selected factory ammo or home-load filters/date range, or matching sessions do not have linked CSV files. Check the active ammunition mode and filters, widen the date range, link CSV files to sessions, then refresh the review.
Competition creation is hidden Your account is not set as an organiser. Request organiser access through the competition workflow or site support.
Leaderboard is missing The organiser may have hidden the leaderboard until the competition closes, or no scores exist yet. Wait until the competition closes, ask the organiser, or submit scores while the competition is open.
Best first fix: refresh the page, confirm you are on www.shotdatatracker.com, and check that your account details have loaded. Many issues come from stale page state, missing list options, or temporary connection loss.
